The city of Sault Ste. Marie is looking for local artists to participate in the storm water drain outreach project.

The goal is to bring awareness to pollutants that can enter the drainage system, and designs submitted should focus on education and the connection between what goes into the drain and what goes into the St. Marys River.

The six successful submissions will receive a $250 honorarium and supplies.

The city of Sault Ste. Marie invites local artists to submit designs and participate in the local storm water drain outreach project.

“The goal of this project is to bring awareness to potential pollutants entering the drainage system. Designs that are submitted should draw attention to the storm drainage system throughout the city, and educate the public on the connection of the drainage system and the St. Mary’s river,” said Virginia McLeod, manager of recreation and culture.

This project represents an opportunity for local artists to display their creativity, while making a difference and impact in the community.

Six artists will be selected to paint their design. A $250 honorarium and painting supplies will be provided.

Deadline to submit proposals is Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m. with painting taking place Aug. 15 to 31 based on artist availability.

Artists are asked to download one of the two design templates on the city’s website.

The template along with a coloured drawing of proposed designs can be sent to [email protected].
