The City of Sault Ste. Marie will receive $200,000 in funding from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to begin a Community Adjustment Committee (CAC), announced David Orazietti today.

"This important and necessary support is being delivered through the Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities and recognizes the difficult circumstances that communities face during an economic downturn," said ‎Orazietti. "The need for this type of assistance continues to reinforce the importance of having an effective local growth plan that will strengthen our economy and create jobs.”

Ontario is providing $200,000 in financial support to Sault Ste. Marie to begin a Community Adjustment Committee that will develop a plan to support the city’s future economic resilience.

The purpose of a Community Adjustment Committee is to develop a multi-functional plan for the broader community as a whole.

This Committee, in addition to identifying worker’s needs, will focus on urgent issues for the whole local economy, including community infrastructure, social development, labor force development, education and training development, and business retention and expansion.

Ministry support for Tenaris and Essar Algoma laid off workers has transitioned from its Rapid Re-Employment and Training Service (RRTS) to existing Employment Service providers.

The RRTS response is adapted to meet the unique circumstances of each situation, as the goal of RRTS is to connect individuals with the relevant Employment Ontario (EO) services that will help workers regain employment, return to school, or access job training.

The local Employment Services providers: Sault College Employment Solutions and Sault Community Career Centre were able to accommodate all of the affected workers through normal operations.
