Sault Ste. Marie City Council voted tonight to close the 50-year-old Churchill Plaza library.

Council also voted to close the Korah branch library in the Northern Community Centre, possibly to accommodate seniors programming that may be transferred from the Steelton Seniors Centre.

However, the motion approved by council tonight calls for some kind of library presence to be maintained at the Northern Community Centre.

Only Ward 5 Councillor Frank Fata voted against the motion.

Library officials are now expected to negotiate a new Northern branch library in the former Alexander Henry High School site on Northern Avenue.
