All of you who've been using Drive-In Road as a handy place to park just off Great Northern Road may be disappointed by what happens at Monday night's City Council meeting.

Andy Starzomski, the city's manager of traffic and communications, will ask councillors to ban parking on both north and south sides of Drive-in Road between Great Northern and Industrial Park Crescent.

If approved, the parking ban will apply 24 hours a day.

"Due to a change in some of the business activity on Drive-in Road and resulting parking that is taking place along the roadway, a number of local business owners had safety concerns," Starzomski says.

"Traffic division staff undertook a review of the parking situation on Drive-In Road over a period of time. The results indicated that current parking activities along this street are creating safety issues entering and exiting the relevant properties."

"There are also safety issues with congestion on the roadway forcing vehicles into oncoming traffic during periods of heavy traffic."

Monday's City Council meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.
