LAKE SUPERIOR STATE UNIVERSITY

************************* Retiring Risk Management Director Jenny Peterman put the torch to a 14-foot snowman effigy during Lake Superior State University's 38th annual Snowman Burning ceremony in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan yesterday.

This year's snowman, nicknamed Burnie, was an oversized corporate mogul complete with a cigar, monocle and sack stuffed with money.

More than 500 spectators - school children, people from the surrounding community, as well as university faculty, staff and students - were on hand when lighting commenced at high noon.

The tradition takes its inspiration from the Rose Sunday Festival in Weinheim-en-der-Bergstrasse, Germany.
