CHRISTIAN PROVENZANO FEDERAL LIBERAL CANDIDATE
*************************** Greyhound bus situation example of government failing Northern Ontario
(September 9) – Last week, Greyhound Canada announced proposed service cuts that will significantly impact a number of communities in Northern Ontario, severely limiting travel options for residents.
Under the cuts, which are expected to take effect December 2, Greyhound Canada would stop westbound service at Sault Ste. Marie, virtually crippling transportation options for residents who live in smaller communities to the north.
“The passenger bus system is a critical means of transportation for thousands of people in Northern Ontario,” said Christian Provenzano, federal Liberal candidate for Sault Ste. Marie and area. “For many, the Greyhound bus is the only affordable option available for them to attend medical appointments or to visit family and friends.”
“This Conservative government is seriously out of touch with the needs of the people in rural Northern Ontario,” said Provenzano. “As a member of Parliament, in the face of such challenges, I will be firmly committed to working with key stakeholders to reach solutions that recognize the vital role that transportation service plays in connecting our northern communities. This is not just a matter of bus routes. This is a matter of ensuring that people who live in Northern Ontario aren’t left out or behind.”
