Child struck by vehicle near Desbarats, driver charged

On July 17, 2016 shortly after 1 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of a motor vehicle collision east of Desbarats, Ontario. 

The motor vehicle had pulled over to the side of the highway and, while being repositioned, struck a small child who was exiting the motor vehicle.   

The child sustained minor injuries. 

As a result of the investigation, David Pottier, 71 years of age, from Victoria, British Columbia was charged with:

  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt, contrary to section 106(4)(a)(ii) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was issued a Provincial Offences Notice.
