SAULT STE. MARIE MUSEUM

***************************** New look for Sault Ste. Marie Museum

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum has acquired a new look, in the form of a newly designed logo.

Its development began when the museum approached Frank Salituri, coordinator of Sault College’s graphic design program, to ask if students could develop a fresh visual symbol for the non-profit organization.

"Our third-year class was very pleased to take part in this exciting endeavour," said Salituri. “It provided an excellent opportunity for the students to work on a project that had a commercial purpose."

In early March the students presented three options for the museum's consideration.

After careful review, the board of directors chose the submission created by student Dan Vernier.

The selected logo incorporates the hills bordering Sault Ste. Marie, the city’s downtown where the museum is located and the International Bridge.

"The students were given quite a challenge - to design a logo that would represent the museum and its mandate of reflecting all aspects of Sault Ste. Marie history," commented museum Curator Kim Forbes.

The students, who are completing their three-year program this spring, will present their graduate exhibit in the Sault College Gallery on Friday, April 23 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All are welcome.
