With help from ace apprentice Thea Jones (right), Birkenhauer was overseeing the vittles last night as the Art Gallery of Algoma hosted its First Annual Auction & Loan Gala.

The auction component of the event alone raised about $7,000, with proceeds including children’s art-making classes and exhibitions of regional artists.
