Chartwell School Dining Services has scored the cafeteria services contract for Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board schools for another four years.

Principals of the two high schools and board purchasing and planning officer Janine Brodie made up the selection committee.

They recommended Chartwell over another food service company that submitted a proposal.

The committee based its decision on menu plans, nutritional selections, prices and the service provider's experience, among other factors.

Chartwell scored 93 out of a possible 100 points.

Peter Perri Food Services, the other contender, scored 45.

The principals of both schools also reported that students at the schools have been happy with Chartwell's services.

At aboard meeting last night, Trustee Grace Tridico commented that Chartwell's menus meet new Ministry of Education guidelines that restrict trans fat usage and they also follow Canada's food guide.

According to the company website, Chartwells serves 2.5 million children from kindergarten to Grade 12 across North America each day.

Other company divisions serve independent schools as well as colleges and universities.
