Charges have been laid in a fatal crash last October on Manitoulin Island.

On October 31, emergency crews were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. At the time, Ontario Provincial Police said the victim was a 65-year-old from Assiginack Township.

They said two others were transported to a local hospital. One person had serious injuries.

Following an investigation by OPP, the 25-year-old Tinaisha Kagige of Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with dangerous operation causing death and two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Gore Bay court on Feb. 6.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Kagige is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
