Charges laid following crash on Hwy 532

************************* Motor vehicle collision on Hwy 532

Driver arrested

HODGINS TWP, ON - On Saturday, November 13 at 8:15 p.m. OPP were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 532 in Hodgins Township.

The accused had been doing some work on a 2003 Toyota Corolla owned by an elderly gentleman in Sault Ste. Marie and took the vehicle for a ride without the owner’s knowledge.

The accused was driving to Searchmont when he came around a corner, lost control of the vehicle, hit a power pole and rolled into a swamp on the left side of the highway.

The accused then left the scene taking the vehicle keys with him prior to Police or ambulance arrival.

The accused was located a short time later at a residence in Searchmont.

Thirty-four-year-old Trevor Diboll of 130 Albert Street West, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was arrested and charged with drive while disqualified and theft over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and fail to report accident contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
