TV6 is reporting that criminal charges against David Hesch of Colorado regarding a threat to paint the Mackinac Bridge with the blood of Congressman Bart Stupak have been dropped.

The threat, linked to Stupak's position on a health care insurance bill, was contained in a letter that authorities say was written by Hesch's father, Russell Hesch of West Branch, Michigan.

The younger Hesch was accused of helping his father send the letter to Stupak.

Prosecutors are trying to reach a plea bargain with the elder Hesch.
