The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce and local Work Force Entry committee have partnered with TalentLift to help businesses identify opportunities to address the labour shortages being experienced throughout all sectors but with a focus on skilled trades, construction trades, hospitality, accommodation, and health care.

Labour shortages have contributed to a new low  in business confidence according to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s (OCC) seventh annual Ontario Economic Report (OER).

“This year’s OER makes it clear that leaders in the public and private sectors must invest strategically in productivity, resilience, and long-term growth,” said Claudia Dessanti, Senior Manager, Policy, OCC. “Unsurprisingly, labour shortages continue to dominate as a source of concern directly impacting most employers and 87 percent of large businesses. Shortages are especially acute in specific sectors such as education, construction, and accommodation and food services.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, the Local Work Force Entry Committee and TalentLift will work together to address these challenges and opportunities within the labour market.

On March 28, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Talentlift is hosting an event will spotlight the opportunity for employers in Sault Ste. Marie to recruit from within refugee populations as a solution to skills shortages and displacement worldwide.

With the development of an innovative new Government of Canada pilot, employers now have access to a new untapped talent pool of extremely talented candidates from diverse backgrounds who are eager to contribute and grow their careers, all while engaging their team in something transformative. The event will be hosted on level 3 of the Civic Centre in the Russ Ramsey Room. Register to attend the event here
