The teams have arrived, the parade and fireworks are complete (see photo gallery below), and now it’s time to hit the ice.

Teams from 13 countries are in Sault Ste. Marie for the fifth CARHA World Cup, which kicked off on Sunday evening with a parade of players from the Essar Centre to the Roberta Bondar Pavilion.

The parade was followed by a fireworks show.

With the formalities now out of the way, Monday morning sees the first on-ice action.

At the John Rhodes Community Centre, the 70+ division kicks the day off as Sundre Red Angus Rustler and Team X get the week-long part started at 9 a.m.

The 35+ division also kicks off at the John Rhodes on the other pad just 15 minutes later when Hopoki and Italy, the lone Italian team entered, take to the ice.

Games run throughout the day at most of the city arenas.

The McMeeken Centre is the lone rink with no scheduled games, though it has been booked by the tournament and can be used as an overflow rink or should a problem arise that sees the postponement of games at another arena.

Until the later portion of the tournament, games will run as late as 10:30 p.m. at some of the rinks to get all of the games in.
