************************* Public mischief charge laid following accident

(EDITOR'S NOTE: On March 1, all charges against Amber Janet Schopp were withdrawn at the request of the Crown.)

Nineteen-year-old Amber Janet Schopp of 84 Arden Street was arrested on the 28th of January at 8:17 p.m. at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service building following an investigation into a single motor vehicle collision near the 400 block of Connaught Avenue.

It is alleged that the accused was driving a car on Connaught Avenue sometime during that morning and struck a PUC pole off the roadway. She left the vehicle and the scene without notifying police.

The accused was later questioned by police but denied any involvement.

Further investigation revealed otherwise and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged criminally with public mischief and fail to remain at the scene of an accident.

She was additionally given a summons under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario for failing to report damage.

She is scheduled to attend court on the 1st of March 2010.

************************* 50-year-old Judy Lynn Crack of 1329 Peoples Road was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 9:20 p.m. at her residence for assault.

It is alleged that the accused had earlier assaulted both a 56-year-old male and a 52-year-old female known to her at that location.

She was charged with assault x2 and given a court date of the 1st of March.

The victims did not require medical attention at the time.

************************* A 32-year-old female who resides in the central area of the city was arrested on the 28th of January at 8:20 p.m. at her residence for assault.

It is alleged that the accused earlier had assaulted her 16-year-old son by slapping him and throwing a beer bottle at him.

She was arrested and charged for assault and later released with a court date of the 1st of March.

The victim did not require medical attention at the time.

Alcohol was a factor regarding the accused.
