Canadian, U.S. markets on the rise

North American stock markets continue to give investors a wildly unpredictable ride. In Toronto, the S&P/TSX composite index gained 16 points today to close at 12,657. On Monday, the Toronto Stock Exchange plunged 605 points.

North American stock markets continue to give investors a wildly unpredictable ride.

In Toronto, the S&P/TSX composite index gained 16 points today to close at 12,657.

On Monday, the Toronto Stock Exchange plunged 605 points.

Yesterday’s gain of 509 points - a record-high one-day jump - represented at least a partial recovery.

In the United States today, the Dow Jones gained 299 points to close at 12,270.

At one point, the Dow Jones had dropped another 320 points before a late-day rebound began.

The Nasdaq ended the day at 2,316, an improvement of 24 points.
