A 29-year-old Ottawa man has become the first person convicted under Canada's Anti-terrorist Act. Canadian-born Momin Khawaja was sentenced today to 10 1/2 years in prison.

A 29-year-old Ottawa man has become the first person convicted under Canada's Anti-terrorist Act.

Canadian-born Momin Khawaja was sentenced today to 10 1/2 years in prison.

The former software engineer was found guilty of five terrorism-related charges last year for training at a camp in Pakistan and providing cash and other assistance to a group of British extremists.

The Anti-terrorist Act came into effect following the 2001 attacks against the United States.
