The Canadian government has offered a $550 million loan to the state of Michigan to fund the construction of a new bridge between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan.

The new bridge would not replace the existing Ambassador Bridge which handles one quarter of merchandise traded between the two nations, but would act as an expansion to the business corridor.

Michigan is expected to accept or decline the loan offer by June 1 of this year.

Once complete, it's estimated the new bridge will create approximately 25,000 permanent jobs.
