City Council will ask FedNor to consider making Sault Ste. Marie the home of its next director general.

During its meeting last night. councillors gave the green light for City staff to petition FedNor to make the Sault the official home office of directors to come.

For the past 12 years, Louise Paquette has been the lead administrator for FedNor as its director general.

On March 1, Paquette takes over as the North East Local Health Integrated Network [LHIN] chief executive officer and FedNor is currently hunting for a head to replace her.

City Council is hoping that head will stay in the Sault.

FedNor is a federal regional development organization primarily serving the economic development and community development for Northern Ontario.

The resolution is as follows.

************************* Moved by Councillor T. Sheehan Seconded by Councillor S. Butland

Whereas Louise Paquette has recently announced her departure as the director general of FedNor; and

Whereas Sault Ste. Marie has been the home to the headquarters and director general in the past; and

Whereas City Council has been in support of increasing the number of public sector jobs;

Now therefore be it resolved that the federal government be requested to post Sault Ste. Marie as an option for the director general job to be located.
