Camp break-ins reported north of city

************************* SHIELDS TWP, ON - Two camps on Station Road in Shields Township were entered within the last week.

Damage was done to both camps but nothing was taken.

************************* DAUMONT TWP, ON - A camp was entered at Vixen Lake.

Stolen items included a socket set, knives, garbage can, DVD player and a quantity of alcohol.

The break-in occurred within the past week.

************************* “Racing Against Drugs” coming to Garden River!

Approximately 2,000 students (Grades 4-6) from Sault Ste Marie, Garden River and outlying area will be part of a unique racing event, “Racing Against Drugs”, starting today.

The “Racing Against Drugs” program promotes healthy lifestyles through anti-substance abuse messages.

With a variety of different ‘pit stops’ children listen, participate and absorb the information and the excitement in this environment.

“Racing Against Drugs” will be visiting Garden River October 6, 7, and 8 for the school children.

On each day of the event “Racing Against Drugs” provides an opportunity for students to race in timed “heats” with a 72-foot tri-oval slot car track, featuring model cars racing at the same time.

Community organizations and agencies advocating healthy living as well as anti-substance programs, will be manning eye-catching booths within the “Racing Against Drugs” sites, promoting interaction from all age groups.

While the timed heats are the center of the presentation, they are only a small part of the message.

Community agencies will also reinforce the theme of enjoying a healthy lifestyle that is drug-free.

The Garden River “Racing Against Drugs” committee is please to offer its support to this tremendous endeavor sponsored by the RCMP and its partners.

The event will be taking place at the Garden River Recreation/ Education Centre on Syrette Lake Road in Garden River.
