Caicco gets competition

A 43-year-old production manager at RMH International filed nomination papers Thursday for the office of Ward One Councillor in the November 10 municipal election.

So far, incumbent Jamie Caicco is the only other candidate to be nominated for that ward.

Caicco submitted his nomination documents two days ago.

The following is the full text of Paul Christian's announcement:

Today, Paul Christian filed his nomination papers at the city clerk’s office for councillor in ward 1. He is the first person who has declared his candidacy for one of two seats currently held by Jamie Caicco and David Orazietti.

Paul’s believe is that long-term prosperity of Sault Ste.Marie is the responsibility of everyone. City council must provide leadership and send a clear message to the community. Sault Ste. Marie must focus on it’s existing strengths in order to grow our economy and improve our quality of life.

Tourism: - Build on the strengths of our natural surroundings and our proximity to major markets

- Linking other tourism partners, developing one marketing strategy to promote our city

Industrial Development:

- Continue to diversify our industrial base. (Value added steel, wood products, Biotechnology)

- Encourage existing industries to remain competitive in the new economy

Information Technology:

- Key factor in the new economy

- Develop strong ties between local educational community and the private sector

- Develop new educational programs that will give us a skilled work force and a competitive advantage in attracting new business

Fiscal Responsibility:

- Best value for the tax dollar

- Make every effort to hold the line on tax increases

Paul is a life long resident of Sault Ste. Marie. He is currently employed as a Production Manager with RMH International.

Paul’s community involvement includes several years of volunteer work with the United Way. He is a past Vice Chair of the United Way campaign. He is a past regional grant review board member with the Ontario Trillium Foundation and is a current foundation board member with the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre, Algoma.
