James Caicco is seriously considering a run for the mayor's job in the next municipal election.

The Ward 1 Councillor confirmed his interest to SooToday.com yesterday after a tour of the new Sault Area Hospital site.

The next municipal election will take place in 2010 and Mayor John Rowswell has already announced he does not plan to seek re-election as mayor.

Instead, Rowswell intends to run as the local Progressive Conservative candidate in the next federal election.

Caicco has played key roles in a number of local initiatives, includng building the Essar Centre and bringing the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay to the Sault in 2010.

He's shown with Rowswell in a SooToday.com file photo at the Olympic Torch Relay announcement last year.
