Here are pictures from my six-week deployment with the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker - CCGS Henry Larsen.

I was assigned to supervise four Royal Canadian Sea Cadets [from different areas in Canada] during their training.

We sailed from July 2 to August 7.

Pictures include beautiful scenery, 24 hours of daylight, some wildlife, the communities we visited, lots of icebergs, the Crossing the Line ceremony for the Arctic Circle, life on board the ship and of course sea cadets. We sailed from St. John's, Newfoundland to Iqaluit, Nunavut then to Kimmirut, Nunuvut.

Next we went across to Thule, Greenland and back to Dundas Harbour (Devon Island), Clyde River (Baffin Island), Cape Dyer (Baffin Island) and returned to Thule.

We flew from Thule to Iqaluit to St. John's.

Then to Halifax, Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie. This would make a good article for the media to highlight the great opportunities available to Sea Cadets.

We currently have one [local] cadet on a tall ship off the west coast of Canada.

She (CPO2 Cassandra Brandow) will be returning September 5. Robert Pihlaja
