The 2003 United Way is officially underway, after campaign chair Steve Butland (shown) appeared Monday night at City Council with sidekick Buzz Lightyear, symbolizing his expectation that this year's campaign will go "to infinity and beyond."

With help from honourary co-chair Roberta Bondar, Butland hopes to raise $1 million in the 2003 campaign.

Thirty percent of Saultites benefit in some way from the United Way, but only 20 percent give each year, Butland told City Council.

The United Way is particularly worthy of support because 82 percent of every dollar raised goes directly to providing services, Butland said.

This week's events include a CEO breakfast at 7:30 tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Holiday Inn.
