A Bruce Mines man has been charged with impaired driving after Ontario Provincial Police were told a vehicle crashed into a ditch.

OPP were called to Plummer Road in Plummer Additional Township just after 9 p.m. last Thursday.

Police say by the time officers arrived, the driver and vehicle were gone, but police tracked them down at a nearby residence.

“While police were speaking to the driver, officers determined alcohol had been consumed,” OPP said in a news release.

“A subsequent arrest was made, and the driver was transported to Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for further testing.”

Duane Russell, 53, is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in an Elliot Lake court on March 7.

In addition, the vehicle has been impounded for seven days and the driver has been issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.

East Algoma OPP say this is the third impaired driving charge they’ve laid since the start of the year.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Russell is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
