Broken glass forces closure of new Kinsmen Park pump track

Shards of glass can be found along much of the bike track, now blocked by yellow tape

A pump track that opened last year for the enjoyment of bicyclists in Sault Ste. Marie is closed indefinitely because of broken glass found in the dirt.

The attraction opened last year at Kinsmen Park and includes a number of hills, jumps and curves on a circular track intended for cyclists.

The pump track is currently cordoned off with yellow "CAUTION" tape and shards of glass can be found throughout much of its length.

The Kinsmen Club, which operates the park, did not respond to emails from SooToday seeking comment.

However, the Sault Cycling Club said on its Facebook page Monday that "this closure is due to a large amount of broken glass being found in the fill."

"We are disappointed to learn of this news and hope that a solution is found to remedy this soon," the post continues. "Please respect this closure and remain off of the pump track at this time."

SooToday will have more on this story as it develops.
