On April 1, U.S. and Canadian toll rates on the international bridge will be equal says Phil Becker, general manager of the International Bridge.

The toll for passenger cars will be $2, whether drivers pay in loonies or greenbacks, Becker told a meeting of Twin Sault municipal leaders yesterday.

The annual meeting included City commissioners from the Michigan Soo, City councillors from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and mayors of the two communities.

"You may be asked why we didn't do this sooner, with the strength of the Canadian dollar," Becker said. "It's based on a six-month average and regulated by an intergovernmental agreement."

Becker also outlined proposed changes to the bridge plazas on both sides of the bridge and maintenance plans for the bridge.
