Bikers Rights Organization Toy Run turns 25 (6 photos)

Donated toys, cash, collected for Women In Crisis

More than 100 participants and 88 motorcycles took part in the annual Bikers Rights Organization (BRO) Toy Run in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, which collects cash and donated goods for Women In Crisis.

The motorcyclists gathered at the Husky on Trunk Road before parading through the city with an escort from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The donations were delivered to Women in Crisis at Great Lakes Honda, where the car dealership hosted a barbecue.

Gerry Rhodes, the local chairman for BRO, says that the event helps women in the city who seek shelter from abuse.

“Quite often, they would arrive at the shelter with just the clothes on their back and a couple little ones in tow,” Rhodes said. “So 25 years ago, we held our first toy run in support of Women In Crisis, and we’ve been holding it ever since.”

The organization collects donated toys, cash, gift cards and necessities as part of the annual event.
