Big Cup Scramble raises over $60K for the United Way

27 teams participated in the event

Golfers braved the rain on Monday to participate in the Water Tower Inn Big Cup Scramble for the United Way, raising $60,290 for the organization. 

Twenty-seven teams hit the links at noon and enjoyed a day of on-course games, snacks and beverages before heading over to the Water Tower Inn for the Big Bowl Banquet Awards Dinner and Silent Auction.

A little rain won’t scare away golfers who are dedicated to making a difference! The Water Tower Inn Big Cup Scramble for the United Way was held on Monday June 20, 2022 and despite some stormy weather at first, was a resounding success. 27 teams of patient golfers hit the greens at noon and enjoyed a fun-filled day packed with on-course games, snacks and beverages before heading over to the Water Tower Inn for the Big Bowl Banquet Awards Dinner and Silent Auction.

Community leader Edie Suriano was awarded with this year’s Ted Brooks Memorial Award which recognizes a member of our local community who follows in Ted’s footsteps. Ted was a tremendous supporter and contributor through his numerous involvements with charities, community events and sports sponsorships, along with his active involvement and passion with politics. The Ted Brooks Memorial Award is presented annually to an individual who, like Ted, unpretentiously gives their time and support to the community. Edie Suriano is a pillar of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre and is a huge supporter of all community organizations and events that take place in Sault Ste. Marie. Congratulations Edie and thank you for your generous spirit and years of service!

More than 70 businesses and organizations in the community came forward providing sponsorships, team participation and auction items to support United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District’s Harvest Algoma Food Resource Centre. Thank you to all sponsors, golfers, auction bidders, and United Way staff and volunteer members; we are proud to announce that we hit our goal this year. The 2022 Water Tower Inn Big Cup Scramble Golf Tournament raised $60,290 for United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District! We are so grateful to our community for supporting the tournament and helping us on our mission to end poverty and hunger in our region.
