Big celebration at Desbarats Farmers' Market this weekend

DESBARATS FARMERS' MARKET

************************* After months of hard work and cooperation between Township of Johnson Council, FedNor and numerous community volunteers, consumers will be able to enjoy a breath-taking new Farmers’ Market in Desbarats.

“The new barn-style pavilion will give the Farmers’ Market a permanent home and serve as a destination point for shoppers,” says Farmers’ Market committee member Judy Hughes.

The new pavilion will be celebrating its grand opening on Friday, July 17, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, July 18, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Municipal, provincial and federal officials, neighborhood residents and community members are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 17, at the market’s Cameron Drive location.

We offer you the finest vegetables, fruits, maple syrup, honey, alpaca fibre products, a great variety of local meats, herbs, jams, cheeses, breads, pastries, artisan crafts and so much more!

Special festivities during the grand opening include “alpaca’s visit the Farmers’ Market” and random prize giveaways throughout the two-day event.

The market also welcomes the 2009 Green Expo [see article in our Green section] held at the Johnson Township Community Centre (Arena) brought to you by: East Algoma Stewardship Council in partnership with Township of Johnson, the Kensington Conservancy, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and Central Algoma Freshwater Coalition.

Highlights of the 2009 Green Expo include: exhibitors, live entertainment, children’s green activities, eco-theatre and a "local" meal.
