MARQUETTE, MI — Raymond William Shaw, 23, of Brimley, Michigan, a member of the Bay Mills Indian Community, was sentenced on December 21 to 15 years in federal prison for sexual abuse of a minor, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today.

In addition to the prison term, Senior U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar ordered Shaw to serve a lifetime of supervised release following his release from prison, and to pay a $2,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.

On September 23, 2009, Shaw pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor.

During his plea, Shaw admitted to engaging in a sexual act with a 14-year-old child at a residence located on land held in trust by the United States for the Bay Mills Indian Community.

U.S. Attorney Davis commended the Bay Mills Tribal Police, the Michigan State Police, agents of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their work in this case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner.
