Batchewana First Nation elects Mark McCoy as new chief

Friday's vote ends 17-year run for Dean Sayers

Batchewana First Nation members have chosen Mark McCoy as their new chief.

McCoy prevailed over longtime chief Dean Sayers by 406 votes, according to results posted by the band.

Sayers has been Batchewana's chief since 2006.

The following have been elected to council:

  • Agnes Bjornaa
  • Luke McCoy
  • Trevor Sayers Sr.
  • Ann Marie Tegosh
  • Gary Roach Jr.
  • Brenda Sayers
  • Carol Hermiston
  • Joseph Thomas Sayers
