August 7- History: Twin Towers tight rope stunt

Today, way back in 1679, the maiden voyage through the upper Great Lakes is underway for René de La Salle's 45 ton trading vessel 'Le Griffon'.

In September of the same year the ship vanishes returning from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Griffon is still being searched for.

1882: The Hatfields of West Virginia & McCoys of eastern Kentucky re-ignite their feud, 100 are wounded or dead.

1927: The 3-lane, 3580 ft Peace Bridge between Canada & the US is dedicated. 1940: Canadian government passes the Unemployment Insurance Act, introducing a national system for the unemployed.

1960: The Cuban Catholic Church condemned the rise of communism in Cuba. Fidel Castro banned all religious TV and radio broadcasts.

1970: The first female member of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie joins the band, Stevie Nicks comes along five years later.

1974: Daredevil Philippe Petit, walked a tight rope between the twin towers of the World Trade Center.

He was later arrested.
