ATV fatality identified in Elliot Lake

************************* Driver identified in fatal ATV collision

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - On July 26, 2007, the East Algoma OPP responded to an ATV collision on South Bay Road, Elliot Lake, Ontario.

The driver of the ATV has been identified as Roger Knapp (65) of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

A post-mortem was conducted on Friday July 27, 2007.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing.

************************* Two males charged from Thessalon First Nation

THESSALON FIRST NATION, ON - On Sunday July 29, 2007, at approximately 8:00 a.m. the East Algoma Thessalon OPP received an initial request to attend at the Thessalon First Nation Territory regarding harassment of an individual.

Between 9 and 10:40 a.m., police were contacted two more times regarding rocks being thrown at a residence.

Ontario Provincial Police attended and two males from Thessalon First Nation were arrested.

Todd Dean Maynard (35) has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

- Criminal Harassment, Section 264(2)(d) (X2)

- Mischief under $5000, Section 430(4)

- Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer, Section 129(a).

Arnet Roy Thompson (40) has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

- Criminal Harassment, Section 264(2)(d)(X2)

- Mischief under $5000, Section 430(4).

Both males attended in Sault Ste. Marie bail court on Monday July 30, 2007.

They have now been released to attend Thessalon court on Thursday August 16, 2007. ************************* Police have concluded their investigation into missing girl

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - The East Algoma OPP have concluded their investigation into the possible missing girl that was reported on July 26, 2007.

To date, no girl with the name Darcy or matching the description given has been reported missing to the East Algoma OPP.

************************* Young impaired driver caught

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - On July 29, 2007, shortly after midnight, a member of the East Algoma OPP stopped a motor vehicle on Spine Road, Elliot Lake, Ontario.

The driver has been charged under the Criminal Code with “Over 80 mgs” and under the Liquor Licence Act with “Person under 19 years consuming liquor”.

The driver has been identified as a 16 year-old.

The name of the driver cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
