************************* Fistful 'o snowman
Lake Superior State University student Nate Oosterhouse pushes another fateful fistful into a 15-foot snowman effigy slated to burn at noon on March 19.
Lake State has been burning a snowman annually since 1971 to welcome spring to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
The ceremonial conflagration, held the closest Friday to vernal equinox, includes a cookout and poetry reading.
Spring actually arrives the next day, March 20, at 1:32 p.m. EDT.
Oosterhouse is an environmental health major from Hudsonville, Mich. (LSSU/Sean O'Mara)
