Art in the Park includes 'wine for your walls' (11 photos)

Annual Art in the Park event ran Saturday and Sunday at new location outside Mill Market

SooToday visited Art in the Park Saturday to view paintings, drawings, photography and arts and crafts on sale, created by gifted Sault and area artists.

The list of artists included Russ Raven (president and interim executive director of the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District), Zoey Wood-Salomon, Laura Fleming, Heather Bowerman, Gwendlyn Goulet, Rutger Becker, John Speers, Dwayne Houle (who is an inspiration to others, as he clearly takes great joy in painting, despite suffering from cerebral palsy), Donna Gioia and many others.

Gioia told SooToday she has always loved art, but started painting in earnest as a way of decorating the walls of the new home she and her husband built 10 years ago.

Word of her artistic talent got around, and opportunities to be a vendor at art shows followed for Gioia.

"Things just got bigger and bigger so I registered a company name and called it 'Wine For Your Walls.'"

"To me, wine always encourages conversation and so does art, so that's why I think it's wine for your walls…I think the name is fitting," Gioia said.

"Art is an outlet for me, it's a stress reliever with no borders, you can do anything you want and anything's possible," Gioia said.

Art in the Park continues today in tents located near Mill Market's parking lot.

Admission is free.
