Local artist Doug Hook contacted SooToday.com today to tell us he saw two tall ships upbound in the St. Marys River around 10 a.m. at Sailor's Encampment on the western shore of St. Joseph Island.

He wanted to know whether we knew where they are headed and whether any more are expected.

We told Doug no one had contacted us so far, but that the Duluth Music and Maritime Festival is on next weekend and we figured the tall ships were headed there.

The official website for that event says that three tall ships are expected this year, and that visitors will be able to ride the ships in open water (advance tickets only.)
