Argument results in assault charges for man and his girlfriend

ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP – On July 25, 2016, shortly after 5 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on V Line Road in St. Joseph Township. 

A verbal argument had ensued. Police attended and both parties were spoken to.

On July 31, 2016, police re-attended the residence in St. Joseph Township to follow-up with the previous domestic.

The male spoke to police and advised the officers that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend earlier that morning. Further investigation resulted in both parties being arrested. 

A 31-year-old female, from St. Joseph Township, Ontario, is charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC; and
  • Possession of Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 6, 2016.

A 53-year-old male, from St. Joseph Township, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Assault –Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the CC.

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 1, 2016.
