12:25 a.m.

The power is back on in the west end.

When the lights went out in our west end office at about 11:25 p.m., SooToday.com's Black Berry went bats.

19 messages came in over about a five minute span of time.

"Power out from Allen Side Road to Third Line West, and Maki Road and Carpen Beach Road."

Loyal SooToday.com readers from First Avenue, Second Line in Prince Township, Goulais Avenue, corner of Douglas and Wilding Streets, South Eden Street, Airport Road, Cumberland Drive (off Third Line), Goulais Avenue at Korah Road, Vivian Avenue, Brule Road, Central Creek Drive, Amherst Avenue, Base Line, Third Avenue, Roosevelt Avenue and Cooper Street all got their thumbs busy to pass on the news and help find out how wide-spread the outage is.

A parent with a three-month old daughter texted saying their power was off on Goulais Avenue at Second Line.

They hoped it came on soon because it's too cold for the baby.

"Power is out in most of west end," said another loyal reader. "From Farewell to at least Goulais Avenue."

This will be the last update until the morning but you can still send us your text messages if your power goes out.

We'll catch up in the morning.

Thanks to SooToday.com readers for keeping us and your neighbours informed about what's going on in your neighbourhood.

************************* 11:45 p.m.

Posting from Blackberry.

Power is out in west end.

We will not be able to post again until power returns to our west end office.

Thank you for your patience.

************************* 7 p.m. update

Power is back on Rossmore Road, reports a loyal reader.

6:30 p.m. update

SooToday.com has learned that Shaw phone service has been down in the Millcreek area for almost an hour.

We've also been informed that the power is out in the Rossmore Road area.

"Our power has been flickering on and off, over and over for the last hour and now it looks as though it's gone for good this time," a reader wrote to us.

Power is also out in on Farwell Terrace.

Two readers also reported in from Brule Road.

"Thank goodness for gas stove cooking since power out on Brule Road," texted one reader. "Went off and on four times but now off for good."

These readers were among the lucky ones because only moments after that text the person above sent another saying the power was back on.

"Booya!"

5:40 p.m. update

A reader from Prince Township also called to say that a tree has fallen and taken out a line on Heywood Drive.

She reports that her power was off for about three hours earlier today, restored an hour-and-a-half, then went out again about half an hour ago.

The reader below just texted us from Nokomis Road to say the power has finally been restored, after 12 hours.

Her kids are happy.

5:25 p.m. update

A reader on Nokomis Road texted us to say that she and her family are without power despite calling PUC three times today.

"I have called PUC three times today. Still no power. Kids need heat and water and food. Need help!"

3:20 p.m. update

A reader on Baseline says he or she is without power and has been since 6:30 a.m.

"Had it about an hour this afternoon," says the reader. "That's it."

Another loyal reader on Mount Pleasant Court off Maki Road says his or her home is also without power at this time.

A reader just called to say that her father told her he has been without power in Blue Water Bay near Goulais River for at least three hours.

3:05 p.m. update

A loyal reader, Bill, sent us the photo above and the following message:

"Power's out on Poplar ave. Saw the culprit on Pim hill."

Also, the reader who reported the power out in the Blockbuster Plaza says it has been restored.

Shawn sent us an email message back at 2:30 p.m. saying this:

"Was just reading your power outage list when my power went out on Birchland Crt. Over by Lake and McDonald."

2:50 p.m. update

SooToday.com readers are busy texting in news of a rash of new power outages and one ongoing one we weren't aware of.

One loyal reader reports the power has been out on Nokomis Beach Road, the street at the very end of airport road, since 5 a.m.

A loyal reader driving in the east end reports the power is out on Wellington Street East and there is a line down on Pim Street.

"The line is blocking the whole road," says the reader.

Another reader reports the power is also out on Riverview Avenue.

That reader surmises the outage is probably due to the line down on Pim Street.

The community of Carpin Beach on Marks bay is dark reports another reader.

Another reader reports the power is off in the Blockbuster Plaza and another says it's also off on Campbell Avenue.

At 2:48 the power came back on near Pine Street and McDonald Avenue.

************************* 2:35 p.m. update

A loyal SooToday.com reader just texted us to let us know the power is off again on Pinto Drive off Allens Side Road in the west end.

The power is also reported to be off in the Churchill Plaza Metro store.

************************* Original story 10:15 a.m.

Sault Today.com has gotten a few calls this morning and an email message or two last night saying the power is off.

So far the outages seem to be in areas of the west end of the city.

We've checked the PUC website but there is nothing there about these outages.

We did manage to get lucky and get through to the PUC.

The nice man who answered the phone confirmed that they are already flooded with calls.

"The power is out all over," he said. "We are arranging crews and dispatching."

It's probably a pretty safe guess that they are due to the wind but who's to say?

You are.

If you're reading this on your Blackberry, iPhone or what ever because you have no electricity or you've heard from someone across town that she or he has no electricity, let us know.

We want to spread the word.

Most importantly, if you see damaged equipment, crews working or crews looking for damaged equipment, let us know.

Call or text (705) 541-1446 or email [email protected].

And remember to be careful with candles.
