Are you a student with a creative business idea? This news is for you.

The Ontario government is now accepting applications for the young entrepreneur program – Summer Company.

The program — open to youth ages 15 to 29 who are returning to school in the fall — provides funding, training and mentoring to assist high school and post-secondary students in starting a seasonal business.

Approved participants will receive a grant of up to $3,000 to start and operate a summer business. Full program eligibility and guidelines can be found on the Government of Ontario’s website at ontario.ca/summercompany. The application deadline is May 17, 2024.

Over the past five years, more than 45 businesses in Algoma District were started with the help of this program, which is administered locally by the Economic Development division of the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
