Algoma Public Health has reported one death and two hospitalizations with COVID-19 today as well as 44 new confirmed cases, though that number may be underestimated due to limits on who can be tested.

There are currently 560 cases of COVID-19 in the APH, which is down from 602 in the last report.

261 tests were processed since the last report, with a positivity rate of 17 per cent.

Sault Ste. Marie has 29 cases currently, with nine cases in North Algoma.

Central and East Algoma and the Elliot Lake area have three cases each.

There have been 3,074 confirmed cases, 2,514 recoveries and 22 deaths in the Algoma Public Health region since the beginning of the pandemic.

Since Oct. 1, 2021, 72.9 per cent of hospitalizations in Algoma were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 27.1 per cent were in fully vaccinated individuals.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
