APH reports one new hospitalization in latest COVID update

Friday's numbers include 55 new cases in the region though the active case count remains the same as Thursday's update

The updated COVID-19 numbers for Algoma released by Algoma Public Health on Friday afternoon show one new hospitalization in the region.

The number of hospitalizations in Algoma is now 17 with one additional individual hospitalized who is a non-Algoma resedent temporarily in the region.

The active case count stands at 576, which is unchanged from Thursday.

APH reported 55 new COVID cases in the region on Friday and an additional 55 resolved cases to leave the active case count unchanged.

There are also four additional active cases in the region that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region and that number also remains unchanged from Thursday.

An additional 423 COVID tests were completed since Thursday's update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
