APH reports one new COVID-related death in the region, increase in hospitalizations

Algoma Public Health is reporting one new COVID-related death in Tuesday's update.

This brings the number of deaths in the region to 40 since the start of the pandemic, 19 of which have occurred in 2022. 

The latest update also reports an increase of 22 active COVID-19 cases, bringing the latest number to 376.

APH is also reporting an increase of three hospitalizations with COVID, with nine people in hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.

There are currently five ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Algoma.

The number of confirmed cases in the region rose by 69 on Tuesday to a total of 5,895, of which 3,691 cases were confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases is up by 47 to 5,519.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region. Monday's update now includes cases from Saturday and Sunday.
