APH reports new COVID-related death, hospitalizations increase slightly

There have been 35 deaths in the region as of Friday afternoon

Algoma Public Health is reporting a COVID-19 related death in the region.

It brings the number of deaths in the region to 35.

Per APH policy, details on the death were not released.

APH also reported that the number of hospitalizations in the region increased by one to 11.

The number of active cases in Algoma dropped by 11 to 604. There are also three additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents.

The number of new confirmed cases in the region rose by 50 to 5,384 while the number of resolved cases rose by 61 to 4,780. 

The number of completed COVID tests in Algoma is 240,387, up by 455 from Thursday's update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
