APH reports 2 new COVID-related deaths in Monday update

Currently 404 active cases, 14 hospitalizations in the region

Algoma Public health is reporting two COVID-related deaths in today's update. 

This brings the total number of deaths related to the virus to 44, 24 of which occurred in 2022. 

The latest numbers from APH also show an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 as well as a drop in the number of active cases in the region. *Note: Monday's update includes cases reported over the weekend.

The number of hospitalizations is currently 14, up by two from the Friday's update, and the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons also increased from four to six - an increase of two from the previous update.

APH is reporting that there is currently one ICU patient with confirmed COVID-19, and the number of patients admitted to the ICU for COVID-19 related reasons increased from zero to one. 

The number of active cases in the Algoma region is 404, which is down by 17 from Friday's update. There is also one additional active case in a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

There are currently 154 new confirmed COVID cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,894 - 4,690 of which have been confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases in Monday's report stands at 6,490, which is up by 171 from Friday.

The number of completed tests in Algoma is 250,506, which is up by 883.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
