APH reporting one new COVID-related death, increase in hospitalizations

Algoma Public Health is reporting one new death related to COVID-19 in its latest update issued Thursday afternoon, bringing the total number of deaths in the region since the start of the pandemic to 47.

Per APH policy, further details on the death were not released.

There have been 26 deaths connected to COVID in 2022.

The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 is up by five to 27 and the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons is eight, which is up by five from Wednesday's update.

APH is reporting seven ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19, which is up from Wednesday when there were none.

The number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons rose by one on Thursday to four.

APH is reporting an active COVID-19 case count of 409 in the region, which is down by two.

The number of resolved cases in Algoma rose by 55 Thursday to a total of 6,980 while the number of confirmed cases is up by 53 to a total of 5,185 in 2022 (7,389 since the start of the pandemic).

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
