APH reporting one new COVID-19 case

There are currently eight active cases in Algoma, one of which is a non-Algoma resident who's in the region

Algoma Public Health is reporting one new COVID-19 case in the region.

This new case, which brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Algoma since the beginning of the pandemic to 397, is in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Case No. 397, tested on June 11, is a close contact case, which means the person acquired their infection through close contact with a known confirmed case.

The individual is currently self-isolating. 

There are currently eight active cases in Algoma, one of which is a non-Algoma resident who's in the region, and three hospitalizations, two of which are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The following Variants of Concern are in Algoma:

  • B.1.1.7 (Alpha), first detected in the UK
  • B.1.617.2 (Delta), first detected in India
  • P.1 (Gamma), first detected in Brazil

Algoma regions that have reported COVID cases in the past 14 days include:

  • Sault Ste. Marie and area
  • Elliot Lake and area
