************************* Second robbery in Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - For the second time in three days, a local business was robbed by a lone suspect.

On Monday July 2 at approximately 11 a.m. a lone suspect entered Miss Mini Mart on Mississauga Avenue and demanded the clerk hand over the money from the till.

The clerk managed to get outside and called for someone to call police.

The suspect fled the store on foot and ran down the street and into the bush.

Police arrived on the scene and spoke with many witnesses.

Canine unit, emergency response team members, forensic identification unit and East Algoma Crime unit members began investigating the incident which had similarities to a robbery that took place on the 30th of June at the Algo Centre Mall.

At around 4:15 p.m. a suspect accompanied police to the detachment in Elliot Lake where he admitted to the two robberies.

Charged with two counts of robbery is 40–year-old David Patterson of no fixed address.

Patterson is in custody and will be in bail court in Sault Ste. Marie today.

East Algoma OPP would like to thank members of the public who came forward as witness to bring these investigations to a successful conclusion.
