************************* Algoma plans blasting work

(Wednesday, August 1, 2007) - Algoma Steel Inc. wishes to advise the public of its plans to conduct blasting on the hearth of No. 7 Blast Furnace on Thursday, August 2 through Saturday, August 4.

The detonations will occur intermittently, as required, for the purpose of clearing out solidified material and making way for refractory and restoration work.

All blasting will occur within the vessel itself and a detailed procedure is in place for the protection of all personnel and the asset.

Warning sirens will sound in advance of each blast and it is expected any resulting noise will be local to the blast furnace site.

However, in the event the sound should carry further, there is no cause for alarm.
